Ted,

Power without control is nothing more than a nose dive into the dirt, or worse yet into the wall - excellent point.

The Subaru STi is impressive with a helical limited-slip differential up front, a thicker sway bar in back and lightweight aluminum rear lateral links, among other modifications such as a steering rack with a stiffer mount, a tighter ratio and an auxiliary fluid cooler.

If Mr. Allen wants to do anything more than verbally jab at Porsche he would do well to find out who is actively competing in SCCA, NASA, Speed World Challenge and so on driving Mercedes-Benz and invite them to dinner. He would then do well to listen and maybe take notes.
Nothing on the Mercedes showroom floor can hold it's own on the track with a Subaru STI or Honda S2000. Forget about Porsche.
More power is not the answer if you can't use what's there already. If Mr. Allen wants M-B/AMG to be a credible performance marque he going to have to start thinking about suspension geometry, mechanical limited slip, weight and weight distribution... Ever rising HP numbers aren't going help those who actually are racing.
