Trying to track down a particular Mercedes. I was supplied with a vin that has too many digits as follows: B4 63837 490C 1026936 A If I left off the “B4″ would that correct the vin?

Ron,

Do you have a “data card” for the vehicle? If not, contact the MB Classic Center in Irvin, CA and request one. I have a 1972 350/450 SL and the data card for it. The card provides manufacturing details and lists the options for the specific car at the time of manufacture.

Also, consider purchasing John Olson’s book, The SL Experience. It is a great resource for SL owners. John is also the editor of the SL Market Letter, which tracks pricing trends and other SL info for enthusiasts.

Where can I check Vin # for pre 1980 manufacture Mercedes ? I have 1977 W107 450Sl. Any help appreciated.
