Testing and Review of the Mercedes-Benz AMG Lineup

AMG Lineup - Auto Bild Testing Sixty-four pictures, four interior panorama shots, six videos and four sound clips showcasing various AMG models are available for your viewing pleasure over at Auto Bild. The publisher's staff recently tested the entire AMG lineup - 16 dream cars. It is a tough job but someone has to do it.

FYI: The Auto Bild link takes you to a Google translation page; the original is in German and the translation is marginal at best.

Considered the fastest sedan in the world, the Brabus Rocket (Mercedes-Benz CLS V12) is from the Tuner GP in Hockenheim, Germany. Some people don’t even consider this a Mercedes-Benz CLS anymore because it is so heavily modified by Brabus. It is also referred to as the “Brabus CLS V12 S Rocket.”

You can view pictures at:

and a police car version at automotive news.

Here’s a YouTube video (in German) for those interested:

    Specs for AMG Mercedes-Benz Vehicles

Looking for the original specs for your AMG or one you are interested in purchasing? Are you trying to find out what horsepower, acceleration times, engine and drivetrain specs, or the fuel economy for a 2003 C32 for example? There is an easy way to find out; here’s how.

First, go to this website, Mercedes-Benz USA, and click on “Model Overview” (menu bar, top right) and select the year for the vehicle of interest. You can find information on model years ranging from 2000-2006.

Next, select the model type (i.e., C-Class, SL-Class, etc.). Now look on the left side of the page and select the model of interest. AMG’s are usually found near the bottom of the list.

Once you have found your vehicle, you’ll see a picture of the car and menu options such as the following example for the 2003 C32 AMG:

    Select one:

For the newer models, the MSRP is provided. For this example - 2003 C32 AMG - the listed MSRP is $51,120. The site offers a wealth of information from MBUSA’s databases. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please leave a comment and we’ll see if we can help you out.

    AMG Mercedes-Benz S 65

    AMG Mercedes-Benz | S 65 AMG AMG Mercedes-Benz | S 65 AMG
    Photos by MBUSA

The S65 AMG’s twin-turbo engine features a number of high-tech modifications over the standard V12. Here are a few:

    • A precision-balanced crankshaft with a longer stroke,
    • Larger-bore forged pistons, and
    • An upgraded system for oil-spray cooling and bearing lubrication.

The S65 AMG can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.2 seconds. The drive power is transferred to the wheels in the new S 65 AMG via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT five-speed automatic transmission with AMG steering-wheel gearshift paddles and DIRECT SELECT gearshift, the gear selector lever on the steering column.

The driver can use the “S/C/M” mode button in the center console to select from the “Sport”, “Comfort” and “Manual” shift programs that not only change the transmission characteristics but also the accelerator response and the spring/damper settings of the AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control. The gears can also be shifted at any time using the silver-coloured aluminium gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.

AMG Mercedes Gold Portfolio 1983-1999 - Pictures Needed

John Dowdeswell stopped by to let us know he is looking for AMG Mercedes-Benz pictures:

I am compiling one of our ‘road test’ books titled - AMG MERCEDES Gold Portfolio 1983-1999. The pics I have of AMGs covering this period are not worthy of the marque - even those supplied by M-B.

We have no budget for a front cover pic but would of course acknowledge anything we use and donate a copy when published - early next year. The pic we need is landscape in shape, in colour, and of course hi-res. Thanks for getting this far. John

If you have a picture for the book cover, please let us know and we’ll hook you up with John.
